If you only have a standard paint roller and need to access the ceiling, however, a portable ladder is one of the best ways to get to it, far better in any case than trying to make your own scaffolding with a plank or two and things like large buckets or even chairs.
The latter of course is considerably less portable and much less safe.
4. Cover The Floor With Heavy Drop Cloths
You will likely want to cover the floor of the room where the ceiling is being painted in that the ceiling paint and paint in general tends to drip.
When it comes to choice in terms of what to use to cover your floors, your best bet will be with a heavy drop cloth as it does a good job of protecting the floor and is also good in that it does not shift when you are walking about, which would expose the floor to dripping paint.
5. Make Sure Your Extension Pole Is The Right Length
If you’re looking to get a telescoping pole for your paint roller, you should ensure that the length of the handle is not much more than the height of the ceiling — you wouldn’t want to get a twenty foot handle for a ten foot ceiling, for example.
Having too much of the pole in the base of the handle will cause it to be heavier than needed, making it quite difficult to use.
